TotalCaption has provided onsite and remote CART services, web captioning and transcription services since 2005.
TotalCaption was created from a belief that we could make a true difference in the lives of people with hearing loss. Not only is it imperative that our national team of CART Providers be highly qualified, extremely professional and experienced, it is also crucial to us that they understand deaf culture, deaf sensitivity, and always demonstrate appropriate and respectful behavior.
TotalCaption’s vision is spearheaded by its co-founder and second-generation Court and CART Reporter, Lauren Schechter. Lauren became a Certified Court Reporter in 1999, and has dedicated her career to providing communication access to the deaf and hard-of-hearing population continuously since then.
Lauren’s years of experience as a Certified CART Provider and champion for people with disabilities has led her to become a key member of the Community Access Network in her hometown of Ridgewood, New Jersey, a committee devoted to addressing the needs and improving access for disabled residents. To that end, Lauren created the concept and helped implement their Disability Awareness Weekend, the largest annual event of its kind in the state.
The objective of TotalCaption, a Certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), is to continue to provide traditional CART services while standing vigil to find, create and perfect new technologies and applications of this vital service.
While TotalCaption’s CART Reporters do not work for praise alone, the reward that we get for being appreciated is a tremendous motivational force behind what we do.
